“Tatay, sino yun?” A young Milo pulled on his father’s hand and pointed to a village elder steaming banana leaves to lay on the chest of a young man on the ground.
This was his first exposure to “Hilot,” a traditional healing modality in his childhood village in the Philippines. Forty years later, as a registered nurse and licensed massage therapist, Milo has combined training he’s received worldwide in the US, Philippines, Canada and Thailand into a healing modality completely unique to him.
“These styles I learn are all powerful modalities with centuries of practice and healing effects,” Milo reflects on his style of bodywork, “But nowhere in the world can you get Milo bodywork unless you come to Milo!”
His laugh is that of a fiery Pinoy. And it’s true. Milo’s style is the seamless blending of his 20 years of training and experience in countless modalities including traditional western medicine, Thai yoga massage, Tok Sen, deep tissue, acupressure, and his home country’s Hilot.

Massage or Bodywork?
"Massage promotes relaxation."
It is important you receive the treatment you need. A massage involves techniques of touch and strokes to the muscles and soft tissue in order to achieve relaxation and to improve your well-being.
"Bodywork promotes healing."
On the other hand, bodywork is the application of a specific set of methods manipulating the body to promote overall health.
If you are experiencing pain, whether chronic or acute or you are looking to improve your function, I recommend my 'Signature Advanced Therapeutic Thai Bodywork' treatment. This individualized treatment is for restoring the body back to balance and health thereby eliminating pain and improving function.
The benefit of restoring your body's balance is a deeper sense of relaxation that is longer lasting than massage.

This Is Thai Bodywork
Effective treatment should address more than just the physical body; bones, muscles, nerves and blood circulation. This is what sets Asian styles apart from western massage.
Thai Massage, Japanese Shiatsu, Chinese Tui Na, and Indian Yoga Therapy each find their roots in the Asian family of bodywork styles.
Asian style of bodywork focuses on energy pathways which are the support structure for the physical body. In Thailand this energy is called ‘Lom’ the wind of life, in Japan the vital force or ‘Ki’, in China ‘Qi‘ or air, and ‘Prana’ breath in India.
While there isn't an English equivalent for these words think of it as 'life energy'.
This energy runs in channels called ‘Sen’ line (Thai Massage), ‘Meridian’ path (Chinese Medicine), or ‘Nadi’ channel (Indian Yoga).
Unfortunately conventional "Western Medicine" does not yet recognize this energy, however healing methods based on this energy have been successfully used for millennia in Thailand, China and India until today to treat and, prevent disease.
When our bodies experience motion, movement, and activity they tend to be free of pain. When muscles are under or overused they stiffen and shorten, resulting in restricted movement, tightness and pain which can ultimately lead to disease.
Thai bodywork offers a profound solution to counteract and reverse many of the symptoms that lead to disease.
What time should I arrive for my appointment?
Please arrive at least 5 minutes early. If there is a session in progress it will be noted by signage on the door. In this case please take a seat and I will be with you shortly.
Reschedule or cancel an appointment?
You should reschedule or cancel at least 24 hours in advance of the appointment. If you do not provide sufficient notice you may be charged the full amount for the treatment scheduled.
What is the best treatment for me?
During the initial assessment we will discuss the best treatment and talk about my recommendation. Please note treatments are for health and therapeutic purposes only. My practice is strictly non-sexual.
What is the optimal length of time for a massage?
A 60 minute massage is of course wonderful for providing quick relief, however it is suggested to schedule 90 minute sessions or more to allow appropriate interaction so together we are able to address your specific muscular discomfort or chronic conditions. This approach results in measurable relief.
What do I wear?
For the 'Thai' massage wear loose clothing. For the 'Swedish + Deep Tissue + Hilot Therapy' massage there will be draping and for my 'Signature' massage it will depend on the therapy so wear loose clothing and we can adjust as needed during your treatment.
Should I eat a meal before my treatment?
I recommend you do not eat prior to a session. If you do plan to enjoy a meal before your session please do so at least 2 hours before. If you are coming from work and must eat something please enjoy a small snack one hour before your session.
Are there any special precautions I should consider?
You are required to fill out an assessment form to note any medical health conditions, allergies you may have or any medications you may be taking. This form is provided automatically after you complete the online booking tool.
Arriving at my studio
My studio is located at 1290 N. Williams St. Please text me when you arrive and I will meet you at the front entrance of the house.
Optimize your experience
Please communicate what you would like in terms of pressure, music volume, or otherwise. Letting me know your key concerns prior to and during the treatment ensures that you will get the most out of your session.
Drinking plenty of water post session
Since possible toxins can be released through effective massage I recommend you drink plenty of water after your session.
Deep tissue and communication
‘Deep tissue’ means I work deeply. Therefore please be advised that it is common to feel sore after a massage. It is also common to experience bruising especially if you already know that you bruise easily. I encourage you to communicate with me and let me know if I am working too deeply for you. This open and honest communication is crucial for your enjoyment and satisfaction with the experience.
Rest after your session
Please allow time after your massage to relax and experience the full benefits of the work that was just performed on your body. Your system deserves time to fully circulate and appreciate the intense work it just experienced.
Pain level of Thai Bodywork
Thai massage uses slow and deep compression with gentle rocking, and assisted stretching on the body’s sen ‘energy’ lines. For some, deep compression can result in some discomfort. As we age we lose flexibility and our joints become stiff and any pressure on the muscle can be painful. This is due in part to a sedentary lifestyle. Thai massage uses yoga influenced stretching and compressions to guide muscles and encourage them to lengthen. This approach ultimately leads to increases in flexibility and decreases of stiffness and discomfort.
Of course this depends entirely on your individual condition. More acute cases benefit from one to three treatments in close succession. Chronic cases benefit from more regular treatments. In order to maintain health and for the prevention of illness I recommend bi-monthly sessions.
